ABOUT US

The Armenian Young Lawyers Association has a great input in initiating and development of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in Armenia. Currently we may say that the Competition has become traditional in the RA. On 7 April 2006, the AYLA in cooperation with and support of the Friends of Jessup founded the Jessup Club of Armenia. The first meeting of the Club members was held on this day as well. The organizers, as well as the judges, participants of the competition and the members of the winner team of the Armenian round of the 2006 Jessup Competition attended the meeting.
Jessup Club is a structural subdivision of the AYLA. The Club has its regulations, which define the object and the goals of the activities of the Club, the legal statute, its structure, as well as the authorities of its bodies. The Coordinator of the Jessup Club and the Board of the Club coordinate its activities. The main goal of the Coordinator of the Club is realization of its ongoing activities. The Board of the Club is a deliberative body, which is elected by the members of the Club for the term of one year.

Establishment of the Club is aimed at providing opportunity to the law students to master the international law, to get acquainted with the experience of the international law, as well as to promote individual research in this sphere. The Club plans organizing dialogues, discussions, seminars and other events to brief and argue on timely issues of the international law. The conclusions and opinions reached in the result of discussions, disputes and dialogues will be summarized and publicized, and we are sure that those contribute to the process of solution of a number of international problems.

The Club is also aimed at popularization of the Jessup Competition in Armenia, raising the level of perception of its importance, establishment of its traditions and ensuring its continuity. The Club already has started such activities and published the first two issues of the Newsletter of Jessup Club and the brochure “Jessup Competition in Armenia and Worldwide.”
